Clearing the Security Breach Alert

If you're contacting us because you're unable to clear the security breach alert, click the X in the upper-right hand corner or press the escape key on your keyboard to clear the message. This should clear the alert and allow you to view your mail.

Change, recover, or reset your Yahoo password

Your Yahoo password gives you access to every Yahoo service you use. You'll need to know your current password in order to change it to something else. If not, you can reset it to start fresh.

  Partner account - If you have an email account with Yahoo through one of our partners (Verizon, AT&T, Frontier, Rogers, BT, Sky, Spark, or MTS) follow these instructions to change or reset your password.

Change your password

  1. Go to the Yahoo Account Info page.
  2. (Mobile only) tap the Menu icon Image of the mobile web version of the menu icon..
  3. Click Account Security.
  4. Click Change password.
  5. Enter and confirm your new password.
  6. Click Continue.
    - A confirmation appears.
  7. Click Continue to finish.

Reset a forgotten password

Use the Sign-in Helper to reset your Yahoo password and regain access to your account. For account security, we'll only display some of the options below. Our system determines which options to display based on factors like where you’re signing in from and recovery info on your account.

Mobile phone number and alternate email address

  1. Go to the Sign-in Helper.
  2. Enter your phone number or email address.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. If prompted, enter the CAPTCHA code.
  5. If you can receive text messages to the number listed, click Yes, text me an Account Key. If you have access to the email address listed, click Yes, send me an Account Key
    - Depending on the option you've selected, we'll send an Account Key to your phone or email.
  6. Enter the Account Key we sent in the field provided, then click Verify.
  7. Select an account to reset  from the list connected to your mobile number or email address.
    - See an account that's not yours? You can remove it by clicking remove it here.
  8. Click Continue.

Secret questions, old passwords, and more

  • Full name - We may ask you to provide your first and last names.
  • Secret questions - We may ask you to enter in answers to secret questions you've set up.
  • Older passwords - We may ask you to enter in previous ones you've signed in with in the past.
  • Yahoo Mail contacts  - We may ask you to confirm contacts you have saved in your address book.
  • Facebook recognition  - If you use your Yahoo email address as your Facebook username, we may ask you to log in to your Facebook account to confirm verification.
